Rally
'Round Republicans redefines two-party contest in Boyle County!
Nearly
400 people ignored the threat of rain to attend a Saturday rally and
cookout on the lawn of the Old Crow Inn.
The September 23rd gathering was called the most monumental Republican
event in Boyle County since candidate Ronald Reagan paid his visit,
exactly 23 years ago to the day. With the turning political tide a clear
perception in the air, the
atmosphere was brimming with enthusiasm and held only the forecast for
bigger achievements.
----- Congressman Hal Rogers, the "Dean
of the Kentucky Delegation," held the crowd in quiet attention
with a message from Governor Bush and his stirring introduction of Ernie
Fletcher. Congressman Fletcher, as always, impressed those assembled
with a keen understanding of the issues and a sincere dedication to
the self-evident truths he works to defend.
----- The invocation was given by Dr. James
McCarroll, Temple Baptist Church, followed by well-received remarks
from Larry Forgy, nonpartisan candidate for the Kentucky Supreme Court;
Ellen Williams, Chairman of the Republican Party of Kentucky; Todd Harding,
representing Victory 2000, Tom McClain, Chairman of the Boyle County
Republican Party; and Mike Harmon, Republican candidate for the Kentucky
House. Long-time GOP activist Alberta Wood recalled the era when she
could make a Republican meeting head count on one hand. Also present
were nonpartisan candidates Lynn Harmon (Junction City Council), Jim
Morgan (Danville School Board), and Jamey Gay (Danville City Commission).
Musical entertainment was provided by Mary Elizabeth Barrington and
Little South.
----- The Boyle County Republican Party
extends its gratitude to the Brousseau family, all the sponsors, and
the many volunteers, including the Boyle County Republican Women, Centre
College Republicans, and Boy Scout Troop 119, who gave the Pledge of
Allegiance and helped coordinate parking.
