has grown steadily since 1998

On Thursday, August 24, 2000, Boyle Countians of both parties gathered at Old Crow Inn, the landmark home of Andre and Linda Brousseau, to bolster the momentum of Mike Harmon's second campaign. The Republican challenger for Kentucky's 54th District seat told those present how "humbled" he was by the show of support.

State Senator Tom Buford was the guest speaker and reminded everyone how important it was to elect someone "willing to say no" to business as usual in Frankfort.

Mike Harmon narrowly missed defeating his opponent in November of 2000. After Mike announced his candidacy for 2002, the sitting state representative may have decided it was too risky to face the challenger a third time, choosing instead to run for mayor of Danville, his former job.

Concerning his own statewide campaign in 2002, Mitch McConnell predicted that he would carry Boyle County "on Mike's coattails." Harmon's energetic supporters didn't think the U.S. Senator was joking, and both candidates were victorious in November. Mike was re-elected in 2004 with a decisive vote count.
