Dear Editor:

I'm writing in response to a letter in last Wednesday's paper by a Christian woman supporting abortion (pro-choice was her preference so as not to sear the conscience) but not the death penalty. Many people, including Christians, have been misled into thinking it is wrong to put a murderer to death and okay to kill an innocent unborn baby. Many Christians draw opinions about the subject based on godless chatter and neglect to seek what God has to say on the subject.

The fact of the matter is God does support the death penalty and abortion is murder. The dictionary describes murder as "the act of unlawfully killing a human being by another human being with premeditated malice."

Now, open your Bible to Numbers, Chapter 35. (I'm using the NIV). Read the whole chapter. Notice that throughout this whole chapter God is giving Moses the law concerning murder and murderers. God tells us how we should deal with the murderer, and quote what the Almighty tells us no less than six times: "The murderer shall be put to death." Also note in verse 29, God tells us that "these are to be legal requirements for you throughout the generations to come, wherever you live." This law is just as effective today as the Ten Commandments.

Psalms 139:13,15,16 says, "For you created my inmost being you knit me together in my mother's womb. (v.15). My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, (v.16) your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

This is the reason we should not support abortion or be "pro-choice." God ordained the life of the unborn child before he/she is even one minute old. It is not up to us to decide the destiny of any baby, no matter how the child was formed— whether planned, by incest, rape or blatant carelessness.
